One of the largest Lunar New Year celebrations in the UK - Birmingham's Lunar New Year Festival shines a spotlight on the fantastic talent within our local communities and  promises to recognise all communities celebrating Lunar New Year, bringing an estimated 30,000 visitors together to welcome the Year of the Dragon.


Produced by Birmingham Hippodrome and Birmingham Chinese Festival Committee, the Lunar New Year celebrations are welcomed back to Southside on Sunday 11 February 2024.

The spectacle of the celebrations, beginning with the traditional waking of the Lion 'Dim Jing' to bring in the festivities and welcoming both professional and local community acts of all kinds to the stage. Audiences can expect to see Lions and Buddha Men with firecrackers, drummers,  traditional fan dancers, face changer performances,school choirs, professional musicians, K-Pop dance, Chinese opera singing and traditional Chinese dance.

As well as watching the variety of performances audiences could spend their time at market stalls, enjoying street food, craft, funfairs, face painting and a chance to see Pom the ten-foot Panda. A spectacular fireworks finale will close the celebrations as one of the highlights of the festival.
